The merging of the Newark Dodgers and Brooklyn Eagles in resulted in the Newark Eagles who would play from 1936 until 1948 while being owned by Effa Manley, the first black woman to manage a team. The team would have a formidable roster and in 1946 would win the World Series in an upset of Kansas City. In 1949 they would move to Houston for a few years before once more moving to New Orleans.
